1.0 INTRODUCTION
In any organisation either private or public the aim is always to
improve productivity being about effectiveness and efficiency of
service by development and better utilization of talents abilities and
potentials of the manpower (employees) and also to help them
develop their knowledge skills and abilities so that they can be more
relevant.
Therefore manpower development should be seen as a means of
ensuring better job performance which will no doubt increase
productivity in any organisation. Thus human resources development
can be said to embrace which aims at transforming people so that
they can contribute more effectively to social political and economic
development. The manpower development has always been a
primary concern for all organisations be it private or public and the
world at large because of its importance to productions and national
development. In this respect it can be said that a nation is formed by
better medicare nutrient accommodation environment as well as
education and development.
Organisations are subject to dynamic that is ready to change so that
the people who comprised them must change too.
In some ways it is difficult to separate the idea of manpower training
from that of organizational development and production.
Manpower training is necessary because it increases production
quality performance and learning rates. Thus manpower (employee)
can perform their job satisfactorily.
In conclusion manpower training is aimed at enhancing specific skill
for a specific job with a desire to provide new ideas and concepts that
may be useful for present and future jobs. Therefore in any growing
economy where organizational sections are becoming more
competitive the importance of manpower training cannot be
overemphasized.
Organizational sector greatly needs a proper trained manpower in
order to perform efficiently and effectively and also achieve their aims
and objectives.
1.1 Statement of the Problem
The statement of problem of this research work is as follows:
● The inability of the management organizational sector to
consider manpower as their assets often brings less interest by
the manpower (employee).
● Inability to train manpower leads to less productivity in
organizational sector
● The inability of organizational sector to utilize and train
manpower lead to brain wastage
● Absence of manpower training makes organizational sector or
its objective a difficult task to achieve.
1.2 Significant of the Study
The significance of this project lies in the belief that without
manpower (employee) training no organizational sector can achieve it
goal and its product will remain substandard no matter how much its
management plough into the organisation. Therefore this research
work is to draw the attention of the likely users to roles which training
of manpower in any organisation play on productivity.
In view of the foregoing the significance of the study are thus:
● This study will bring out the importance of manpower in an
organisation so that employers of labour will refer to it as a
guide
● It explains the importance of training of manpower in an
organisation
● It helps to remind organizational sector on the need to have well
trained workforce (manpower)
● It ensures that respect for manpower training can guarantee the
organizational sectors goal achievement
● It explains the relationship between manpower training and that
of productivity
● It will also serve as a useful document for Federal Training
Centre Kaduna in particular and other institutions in general.
1.3 Objectives of the Study
The objectives of the study among others are as stated below:
a) To examine the level of effectiveness of manpower training
b) To find out the importance of manpower training in an
organisational sector concerned with productivity
c) To emphasize the danger inherent in lack of manpower training
in an organisation
d) To highlight the effect of training of manpower in an
organisation
e) To serve as a reference point for future researchers in similar
area of study.
1.4 Research Questions
a) Is there any effect of manpower training on organisation?
b) Can organisation function effectively without training of
manpower?
c) Are you in support of the fact that organisational management
should devote more time in training of their manpower?
d) Do you agree that manpower training will lead to the attainment
of organisational goal?
e) Is there need to train both existing and new manpower
(employee) in an organisation?
1.5 Scope and Limitations of Study
As earlier mentioned this study covers the meaning of manpower
training in organisational sector. Therefore every information passed
in this research work is limited to experiences literature books of past
researchers consulted. The study however focuses solely on the
Federal Training Centre Kaduna being the main trainers of
administrators for the public service. Data for the study will be based
only on the responses of respondents from the staff of Federal
Training Centre Kaduna to enable the researchers have an accurate
result from the questionnaire.
1.6 Definitions of Terms
To ensure a proper understanding of this project titled
“SIGNIFICANCE OF MANPOWER TRAINING IN AN
ORGANISATION: A CASE STUDY OF THE FEDERAL TRAINING
CENTRE KADUNA”. It is important to explain the following
terminologies as will be used in this project work.
Significance: Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary New Special
price 6th edition defined significance as “the importance of
something”.
Manpower: A number of workers needed or available to do a
particular job or it is also an act which involves procurement of human
resources in an organisational sector at the right time by selecting the
right person and place him in a particular job.
Training: Is organisational effort aimed at helping an employee to
acquire basic skills required for the efficient execution of the activities
functions for which he is hired.
Organisation: Organisation is the structure and process by which a
cooperative group of human beings allocates its task among its
members identifies relationship and integrates its activities towards
common objectives.
